and the romney campaign. romney's entire message is that the economy is struggling and it's obama's fault and therefore you should vote for me. yet, romney is behind in every single poll that i'm aware of in nevada. he hasn't been able to wrap it up in this state with one of the worst economies in the united states. that really shows, you know, the limits of that message and how much his campaign is struggling to get it across. >> craig, can we talk about -- is it okay if i talk about roger ales for a second? >> is it somehow connected to this, or do you just have an urge to talk about roger ales right now? >> it's connected. you played an interesting sound bite from governor dean saying it's all about how you look on mute. in roger's book, he talks about how he used to choose his local ancho anchors by watching them on mute. it may sound. superficial, but a lot of things in politics are superficial. that is why mitt romney does stand to gain on wednesday. because just the image of him up there, an equal to t

what the romney side needs is that they still have to persuade people that governor romney is the guy they should vote for. at the national level, that means they need to fix whatever has gone so wrong with their campaign message and they need to stop doing whatever it is that has turned so many people off to their candidate. when you ask voters whether they like this mitt romney guy, the answer is a very, very plain answer. no. his favorable ratings are in the low 40s. almost 10 points lower than the ratings for president obama. lower, even, than the famously unpopular former president george w. bush right now. swing state voters say they do not think that mitt romney cares about the needs and problems of people like them. some of mr. romney's numbers are just shockingly bad. i mean double check. shockingly bad. look at the percentage of swing state voters who say mitt romney's policies will favor the middle class. in florida it's 8%. in ohio it's 9%. in pennsylvania it's 9%. whatever the romney campaign has done to get themselves to this point, whether it's mr. romney's tax returns,

in the romney campaign. there hasn't been a lot of focus on what the president promised and where he fell short. i think certainly through the end of the debate season, there's going to be a huge focus on promises he made that he couldn't keep. whether it was immigration reform and his promise to tackle that right away. he didn't do it, never put a serious effort into it. his promise that health care would get more popular over time. in fact, it still remains a net unpopular with voters. and then also just the idea on the economy which we have heard a lot about that his policies would lower the unemployment rate below 8%. that didn't happen, it was a promise they made early on in the presidency and it's one no doubt you're going to hear a lot about tomorrow night. >> jim, is health care going to play heavy in these debates, do you think? is it something we're going to hear about? and how will mitt romney deal with it? he's had months and years you could argue to figure out his answer on it. how does he addre
